Maternal Asthma, its Control and Severity in Pregnancy, and the Incidence of Atopic Dermatitis and Allergic Rhinitis in the Offspring

Atopic conditions, such as atopic dermatitis (AD) and allergic rhinitis (AR), are well known to cluster in families. Hav-ing a patopic condition, especially in the mother, increases the risk of a child to develop an atopic condition up to 4-fold.Although most studies have looked at maternal history of asthma or atopy, there are few instances where AD and AR development was investigated in relation to atopic conditions during pregnancy. In addition, no study has further assessed the risk of AD or AR among children of mothers with asthma.
