Redefining the self-assessment program.

The framework of continuous professional development (CPD) options of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada's Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program promotes self-assessment through the inclusion of accredited self-assessment programs (SAP) and simulations. Written or online SAPs allow specialists to assess their knowledge or application of knowledge against current evidence or practice standards to identify areas where further learning is required. In collaboration with the Royal College, the Continuing Medical Education Unit at the University of Western Ontario began a pilot project to facilitate the development of SAPs.
