We read the above article with interest. We note that the authors found unsatisfactory results with the Moje Acomo prosthesis for treating osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint. This paper stated that a similar implant, the MOJE prosthesis, was being used for the first MTP joint of the foot without major problems. The purpose of this letter is to inform your readership that this is not the case. We have used the MOJE implant for the first MTP joint of the foot and also found poor osseous integration. In 74 joint replacements we have found that the loosening rate was in the region of 60 percent . Sixty percent of the joints had radiological subsidence and 36 percent of the implants were tilted. Twenty-four percent required revision surgery and 10 percent of the implants fractured.
