Treatment of bony mallet finger using a modified pull-out wire suture technique

Bony mallet finger can be treated by splinting or fixation. However, when more than 30% of the articular surface is involved with fracture displacement, it is difficult to obtain an anatomical reduction by closed manipulation and splinting in extension and surgery may be needed (Jupiter and Sheppard, 1987; Stark et al., 1987). Although a variety of open and percutaneous surgical techniques have been described for the treatment of a mallet fracture, accurate reduction and stable fixation remains challenging.
