Charity begins with management systems at Wesley Mission

Charity may still begin at home, but certainly these days it is not being run there. With the charitable and not-for-profit sector accounting for around 3.3 per cent of Australia's GDP - some 21 billion dollars - in 1999-2000, clearly there are big dollars- and with them, big responsibilities - at stake. Today's major charitable organisations are likely to be the size of major businesses, have many employees and a wide ranging scope of operations. Certainly this is the case for Wesley Mission Sydney. Originating from Sydney's first Methodist church, which was formed in Sydney in 1812, the Wesley Central Mission was established to focus on social justice and evangelism for the poor and needy of the city and environs.
