SAI Global signs national food safety deal with Mauritius

SAI GLOBAL LIMITED has struck a deal with the Mauritius Standards Bureau to provide a national food safety management system certification program. In 2002-2003 Australian exports to Mauritius were valued at around 123 million dollars and consisted of mainly dairy, meat, wool and confidential items. Food crops are the major drivers for the economy with sugarcane grown on 90 per cent of the country's arable land. The Chief Executive Officer of SAI Global, Mr Ross Wraight, said: "The development and implementation of the national food safety management system certification scheme will be vital to protecting the food and agricultural industry in Mauritius and will help to create future export opportunities."
