摘要

David Joy was appointed locomotive superintendent to C C Williams just a fortnight before the latter's contract to supply the rolling stock and operate the Oxford Worcester & Wolverhampton Railway came into force on 1st May 1852. His famous Diaries record how he assembled a heterogeneous collection of six locomotives for the opening. He lettered the locomotives A-F, of which A, B, C and F were available on opening day and D and E arrived on loan from the North Staffordshire Railway shortly afterwards. The most accessible record of these engines is in the RCTS book Locomotives of the Great Western Railway Part 3 pages C21-2.
