COMPARATIVE PROGENY TESTING OF HF AND JERSEY SIRES BY DIFFERENT SIRE EVALUATION METHODS

Data on 170 crossbred progeny of 10 sires' maintained at CBF Borgaon Manju were used to evaluate sires for first lactation milk yield, SDA, HMC, CC, LS, SRLS and BLUP methods were used to estimate sire breeding value BLUP method was found superior because of its minimum standard error of prediction over other methods, Simple Daughter Average Method had high and significant rank correlation and product moment correlation with LS, SRLS and BULP, Only to avoid computation difficulties simple daughter average was preferred method for sire ranking. On the basis of present findings it was concluded that SDA,LS, SRLS and BLUP methods are equally efficient to depict the similar sire with respect to superiority for first lactation milk yield.
