Congenital bilateral hydrocephalus in a Jersey cow calf - A case report

The congenital hydrocephalus has been reported in cattle of different breeds by Cole and Moore (1942), Backer et al., (1961) and Green et al., (1973). Further in addition to the defects in central nervous system, a variety of malformations involving the eyes, face, mouth and vertebral column are reported to be present along with hydrocephalus resulting due to genetic factors. (Green and Leipold, 1975). The present case placed on record is of a neonatal jersey cow calf born after cesarean section with hydrocephalus that had resulted in dystocia. The cesarean section was performed as per standard established procedure.
