Genetic Polymorphism of Exon 1 of Myostatin Gene in a Broiler and a Layer Chicken Line

Myostatin, a growth factor has negative effect on muscle fiber growth in chicken. The genetic polymorphism of exon 1 of myostatin gene was carried out in a broiler (control broiler) and a layer (IWI) strain. The study revealed the presence of two genotypes AB and AC in both populations with presence of three alleles А, В and C. The most predominant and least frequent alleles in both control broiler and IWI populations were A and C, respectively with non-significant difference of genotypic and allelic distribution between two populations. Different population dynamics statistics and divergent parameters were also studied in both populations indicating polymorphic status of the gene.
