Karyotyping of Macrochromosomes in Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo)

For karyotyping, the guideline of International System for Standardized Avian Karyotypes (ISSAK) was followed. The length of the chromosomes (macro chromosomes) was measured using the Motic Image Plus 2.0 software. The largest chromosome had relativelength of 23.03% and significantly varied from all the chromosomes. The size of 2nd and 3rd largest chromosomes significantly varied (P<0.01) from the 4th and Z chromosome. However, there was no difference in the size of 4th and Z chromosomes. 5th, 6th,7th and W chromosomes also had higher relative length than 8th and 9th chromosome. Z chromosome lay between 4th and 5th largest chromosome, whereas, W chromosome lay between 6th and 7th largest chromosome.
