Experiment was conducted to find out the effect of holding of porcine semen for different periods at 24 deg C on motility and live sperm count at different stages of processing during freezing and post-thawing. It was observed that sperm motility andlive sperm count were significantly higher in 1 h and 3 h holding groups up to the stage of equilibration than in 5 and 20 h holding groups. However, after thawing significantly higher sperm motility and liver sperm count was obtained in 3 h holding group than in 1, 5 and 20 h holding. Therefore, it was concluded that 3 h holding of semen prior to freezing would give better protection to spermatozoa during freezing.
