EU seeks 'smooth transition' in post-quota era

The European Commission and China have met with industry representatives from their respective countries to discuss questions related to market access,production and investments in the post textiles and clothing quota era after 1 January 2005 as well as the technical implementation of a control system of Chinese imports.As agreed by the European Union and China in May,the EU will set up a monitoring system conforming to World Trade Organisation law at the beginning of next year to control imports of Chinese textile imports and ensure a smooth transition to a quota-free trade.
