Champions of Digital Literacy: Fostering a World of Informed Digital Producers

Despite increasing workloads and decreasing resources, the default response of academic librarians is to continually answer that, with quick turn of the page,we can bewhat our universities and stakeholders want us and need us to be. Since the introduction of personal computing and automation, librarians have been adopting and integrating a multitude of practices, resources, facilities, and services related to the ever-expanding list of emerged and emergent hardware and software. The adaptation of the profession and our facilities, in response to digital landscapes, pedagogy, and scholarship, is not optional, and leveraging how we embrace trends is how we have learned to survive. We have even gone so far as embodying change through re-rhetorcizing our positions, our education, and our facilities by transitioning from librarians to information specialists, library schools to iSchools, and even libraries to labs. While embracing trends and new movements has resulted in the fashionable like the 3D printed ring that I amwearingwhile writing this column, this ring, these practices, and the new terminology have left me questioning how the re-envisioned articulation of libraries impacts where and how our instructional attention should be directed.
