Effective control of scab and codling moth is vital to maximise an apple crop's marketable yield. However, on many farms that control remains hit and miss and potentially very costly, says Agrovista fruit agronomist Paul Bennett. As a result, more growers are switching to Growers Choice Interactive (GCI), Agrovista's web-based pest and disease (P&D) forecasting tool, to track the development of scab and codling moth in real time to ensure maximum, cost-effective control. "Four years ago, when the on-line model was rolled out, just a couple of growers were involved, he says. "By 2011 there were about 30, and this season we have about 70 subscribers."
