摘要

Mining of mineral resources results in extensive soil damage, altering microbial communities and affecting vegetation leading to destruction of vast amounts of land. Soil microbes play a very important role in transformation of nutrient constituents. In the present study impact of coal mining on microbiologicalpopulation in soil at and around coal mines were carried out. The main objective of the study is to understand the effects of these mine spoils on the natural soil micro-biota of the area because these mine spoils turn into native soil in course of time.lt has been found that the number of microbial population has greatly reduced due to mining activities. Microbial population was counted almost 10 times lesser in soil sample from mining area as compare to non-mining area, but it was found to fulfill the standard range for normal fertile soil. Bacterial population was dominated over actinomycetes and fungi in soil samples from mining area.
