Industrial workers constitute a vital segment of our population in view of their significant contribution to the national income. Industrial workers have increased in number from a mere 5 lakhs in 1950 to 92 lakhs in 1985 which is a good measure of our industrial development. Good nutrition and health provide the biological basis for good physiological function and performance. Nutritional deprivation during early life affects the physical work capacity of adults and life long productivity which is dependent on manual labour. Anaemia is the most widespread and yet the most neglected nutritional def eciency disorder in the country, Even quite mild degree of anaemia appear to reduce work capacity.
