Daniel A. Scherson Named JES Editor

ECS is pleased to announce that Daniel A. Scherson has been appointed the next Editor of the Journal of The Electrochemical Society (JES), beginning January 1, 2008, for a five-year term. Carl Osburn, ECS Past President and Chair of the Search Committee, noted that the committee "recognized that the next Editor will face a number of key challenges. In addition to addressing operational issues such as further decreasing lagtimes, innovation is also needed when thinking about strategic directions for JES." The committee sought nominations through a variety of means including special letters of invitation to apply; the position also was advertised in Interface and through several e-mail solicitations. The committee established several criteria for the successful candidate: recognition in the international technical community, the ability to address issues facing the journals such as the impact factor, the ability to implement strategic plans, and competence in the day-to-day operations of the publication. Other members of the Search Committee included ECS Past Presidents Dennis Hess, Robert P. Frankenthal, and Barry Miller; and ECS Secretary Petr Vanysek. In accepting the position as the new JES Editor, Prof Scherson said, "I am most honored by this appointment and ready to face the many challenges that lie ahead. JES is the most cited journal in the field, and we will maintain its premier standing in the community."
