North-west Scotland: noteworthy beetles from a visit in 2010

During 22 to 29 June 2010, MGT visited six SSSIs in north-west Scotland (West Inverness (VC 97), North Ebudes (VC 104) and West Ross (VC 105)), to monitor their beetles, focusing on saproxylic species (Table 1). This was Site Condition Monitoring work under contract to Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH). This paper gives brief details of all the Red Data Book and Nationally Scarce beetles recorded as well as a few other noteworthy species, from what is a relatively under-recorded area for beetles in a British context. Comments have been added by Richard M. Lyszkowski (RML) based on his extensive experience of Scottish beetles.
