Canada to host biosuccinic acid plant

BIOAMBER, a company specialising in greener chemical production processes, has announced plans to build a 35,000 t/y biosuccinic acid plant in Sarnia, Canada. The plant will be the company's second to use genetically modified bacteria to convert wheat-derived glucose into succinic acid. BioAmber's process, which it showcased on a smaller scale at its 3,000 t/y plant in Pomade, France, won a prestigious US Presidential Green Chemistry Award earlier this year (tce 841, p8).
