CHINA has begun clearing space inland for the construction of three new AP1000 nuclear power plants. The units will be the first to be built independently by Chinese companies and away from the coast. China wants to bring nuclear power inland to reduce its carbon footprint and end regional power shortages, says Ye Qizhen, deputy director of China National Nuclear's (CNN) science and technology committee.
