THE UK gas and electricity distributor National Grid is considering developing the infrastructure needed to transport captured CO2 out to the North Sea,where it could be stored in depleted gas fields."This is very early days-we're currently looking into the commercial and technical feasibility of the project,"a National Grid spokesman tells tce.The company is investigating the Humber region,where redundant gas pipelines could be refurbished and re-used to pump CO2 into now-depleted gas fields,together with some new build to make the necessary connections to major power plants.The area is home to several large coal-and gas-fired power plants,including Drax,Killingholme,Ferrybridge and Eggborough,which emit an estimated 60m t/y of CO2.
