摘要

The quest for alternate energy sources to supply non-crude oil derived fuels and chemicals has prompted interest in developing a cost efficient process for converting CO2 into formic acid and its salts. These in turn can be used as hydrogen storage materials, as precursors to methanol, as reducing agents in organic synthesis, as the fuel in fuel cell applications, and as an environmentally attractive substitute for mineral acids in applications in mining, drilling, and hydrofracking, as well as a feedstock for bacteria in the production of gasoline substitutes.
