The u.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB; Washington) has issued its 2012-2016 strategic plan, including a 'CSB Most Wanted' program that will enable CSB to focus on outreach initiatives stemming from CSB's top accident prevention priorities. "The CSB's strategic plan contains 13 strategic objectives that enable the agency to work towards its mission of accident prevention," says CSB chairman Rafael Moure-Eraso. "The plan builds on the agency's legislative mandate and includes an updated mission and vision statement." CSB is a government body mandated by the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. The board does not issue rules or citations, but investigates accidents and makes recommendations to EPA and OSHA regarding measures needed to improve accident prevention. The plan's goals are grouped under three main sections: to conduct incident investigations and safety studies concerning releases of hazardous chemical substances; improve safety and environmental protection by ensuring that CSB recommendations are implemented and by broadly disseminating CSB fndings through advocacy and outreach; and preserve the public trust by maintaining and improving organizational excellence. The second goal includes "timely implementation of highimpact recommendations to the Congress, federal agencies, state governments, and private and non-proft entities, with emphasis on board and staf advocacy of the "Most Wanted Chemical Safety Improvements" program, CSB says.
