A novel calibration bench for the calibration of heat flux sensors (HFS) was developed at Institute for Process Measurement and Sensor Technology of Technische Universitat Ilmenau. Here, known surface temperatures at both sides of the HFS are used to determine its sensitivity. The surface temperatures are determined by means of a method know from the calibration of contact surface thermometers. The temperatures measured by means of thermocouples distributed in reference blocks are used to extrapolate the reference blocks surface temperature. This temperature matches the surface temperature of the HFS in the ideal case. The two extrapolated surface temperatures can be controlled by means of individual controllable heating power inputs. The differences between temperatures are in the range of +/- 200mK. The sensitivity of the HFS can be determined by means of these differences.
