Visitors to Rocking Horse Lodge frequently ask, 'What a delightful hobby! Is there much call for rocking horses these days?' Yes, there is and it's mostly to do with Christmas. Because of exhaustion and time constraints Chris and I do not celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day, but on New Year's Day. Instead we wake up on 25th December after a sleep-in while fifty or so children all over Australia walk or run bleary-eyed to the living room to find a rocking horse under the tree (Photo.1) — a timelessand grand toy of yesteryear that contrasts with the usual noisy, plastic and electronic 'two week wonders'. Chris spends three months working very long hours up to Christmas. Up at 4:30am and with a power nap after lunch, he often goes back to the workshop after dinner for a couple of hours.
