摘要

Throughout its long history, The Anatomical Record has been the source for reporting findings and ideas on the skull of humans and our vertebrate relatives. From embryological insights to comparative explorations, from assessments of variation among living human populations to those deciphering the mysteries encased within fossils from our past, seemingly every enticing hollow, every tantalizing protrusion of bone, every meandering vessel, has caught the eye, caliper, and microscope of scientists who are eager to report their data within our pages. Keeping with this tradition is this month's special issue, "The paranasal sinuses: The last frontier in craniofacial biology," guest edited by Samuel Marquez. The issue is an extraordinary opportunity to peer into the minds and energies of those scientists who explore the intriguing hollows within, and the influence of these spaces on the anatomy and biology of the skull that surrounds them.
