The CW75 Index rose 1% for the week ended September 20, lagging broader market indexes including the MSCI and the Standard & Poor's 500, which both advanced about 2.5%. Markets rose partially on hopes that the U.S. Federal Reserve will take steps to stimulate economic growth. Basic chemical shares were flat, diversified chemical stocks rose 1.9%, and specialty chemical shares increased 3.4% Airgas, Praxair, and Linde were among the leaders in part because industrial gases firms tend to outperform sectors that are more vulnerable to cyclical pressures.
