Sumco Puts Ohio Wafer Facility Up for Sale

Sumco has put its Cincinnati, OH semiconductor wafer manufacturing facility up for sale, according to Atreg (Seattle), the consulting firm hired by Sumco to facilitate the sale. Atreg did not provide an esti- mate of the sale price. Sumco says it is selling the plant because the industry is transitioning away from many of the wafer technologies produced at the Cincinnati site. The company will be consolidating its manufacturing, which includes solar-grade wafers, at its Japanese sites and its two other U.S. facilities at Phoenix, AZ and Albuquerque, NM. Sumco manufactures 125 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm substrate and epitaxial wafers at the 100-acre site.
