The trend for today's new engines has them idling at very Tow flow ranges (<1.0kg/h down to O.25kg/h). As this trend continues, the need for quicker responding, higher accuracy low-flow calibration devices will greatly increase. There is a growing need for extremely accurate calibration of test equipment, especially in the area of fuel systems in order to meet ISO9000 and QS9000 requirements. What are the reasons for wanting this extremely accurate calibration? Test engineers and engine designers are looking for calibration to confirm, or in some cases not confirm, high-value test results obtained from many different test cell and test track locations around the world. In the past, calibration has been regarded as a double-edged sword. Engineers want the most accurate and most reproducible tests that are usually gained at the cost of test time. A more thorough calibration results in longer down time, which in turn results in higher costs. Typical cell down-times for calibration can run to upwards of four hours.
