Introduction

This year has been a challenging one for all of us in the world of total joint arthroplasty. Despite the uncertainty that exists as we consider the decisions that have been made about health care reform and Medicare reimbursement, our community continues to produce excellent research and studies. This is made clear when one reviews the material included in this special American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Supplement to The Journal of Arthroplasty (JOA). The articles included were selected from the podium presentations at the 2009 AAHKS Annual Meeting in Dallas, TX, by the Education Committee. All presenters from the meeting were invited to submit a manuscript to be considered for publication in the Supplement. These manuscripts were reviewed and edited by members of the JOA Editorial Board and an invited panel of Guest Reviewer's from the AAHKS membership.
