Teijin swings to profit

Teijin reports a net profit of ￥24.5 billion ($203.3 million) in the fiscal first half, ended 30 September 2015, compared with a net loss of ￥22.3 billion in the year-ago period. The net loss in the year-ago period was due to extraordinary losses incurred as a result of restructuring measures. In November 2014, Teijin announced several initiatives to restructure its unprofitable businesses, which included permanently shutting down a polycarbonate plant in Singapore and exiting the dimethyl terephthalate business.
