Caudate lobectomy: tumor location, topographic classification, and technique using right- and left-sided approaches to the liver.

To the Editor: I read with interest the review by Chaib et al regarding the use of the left- and right-sided approaches for caudate lobectomy. In the figure (Fig. 2 in the original article) showing the topographic classification of caudate lobe tumors as given by Hasegawa et al in 1991, the authors incorrectly identified the different types of caudate tumors. The correct figure and descriptions are in the original manuscript by Hasegawa et al. The same error occurred in a manuscript published in 1998 by Lucandri et al. and in another review published by Chaib et al. in 2007. Because none of the other manuscripts quoting Hasegawa's article described the complete classification, the authors of the current manuscript have in fact, reproduced the mistake made in Lucandri's manuscript in both of their reviews while quoting the original paper in both instances.
