Major Railway Projects In Queensland QR divided by two for privatization of coal transport business

On 1st July, QR Ltd., Queensland state-owned railway company of Queensland, was divided into Queensland Rail and QR National. The division by two of QR was to privatize cargo transportation business of QR. As a result, Queensland Rail undertakes passenger transport business and QR National cargo transport business including coal. Out of the above concerning QR National, Queensland Coal Industry Rail Group (QCIRG) composed of 13 mining companies including BHP Billiton has been showing a strong intention to buy out QR National. QCIRG conveyed its intention to buy out QR National for Australian Dollars 4,850 million to the Queensland State Government on May 26, 2010 and raised its purchase amount to Australian Dollars 5,200 million on 10th August.
