The effect of self-cleaning of the discharge gaps in electric barrier ozonizers featuring a turbulent gas flow is related to the fact that the hydrodynamic forces (separating foreign solid and liquid particles from the electrode surface) predominate over electric forcers (attracting such particles to the electrodes). In this respect, ozonizers operating in a turbulent gas flow regime are advantageous over devices operating with a laminar flow.
