The control method comprises estimating a nitric oxide flow rate and nitrogen dioxide flow rate in an exhaust gas, determining a target flow rate of ozone based on a total flow rate of the nitric oxide and the flow rate of nitrogen dioxide, operating an ozone generator (6) of a treating device (3) such that the ozone is supplied with the target flow rate of ozone into the exhaust gas, and removing nitric acid from the exhaust gas by the ozone, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide and moisture in the exhaust. The ozone generator supplies the exhaust gas discharged from an engine, and ozone. An independent claim is included for a control device.
