The device has an ozone generator (6) for generating ozone, and an ozone supply passage coupled to an exhaust pipe (2a) of a diesel engine (1) equipped with a turbocharger (15). The ozone generator generates discharge plasma in a discharge space between an air flow passage and the ozone supply passage, where the discharge plasma is generated from oxygen in the air passing through the discharge space. A control device (4) controls an ozone flow rate so that nitrogen oxide in exhaust gas is converted into nitric acid or precursor of nitric acid to be removed from the exhaust gas.
