The sensor (10) has two interdigital electrodes (11,12) for determination of particle content in exhaust gas. The particle sensor is partially coated with nitrogen oxide storage material (13) so that nitrogen monoxide in exhaust gas is converted into nitrogen dioxide which is immiscible or slightly catalytically active materials or in combination of the characteristics. The nitrogen oxide storage material is alkaline earth metal carbonate or alkali metal carbonate. The electrodes are made of palladium, gold, rhodium, ruthenium, platinum or palladium alloy. An independent claim is included for method for manufacturing and operating particle sensor.
