We have Prof Otto Bayer to thank for the 1937 patent that marked the genesis of polyurethanes. And it's a happy coincidence for Crain Communications - publisher of this magazine and organiser of the UTECH events - that the 75th anniversary of this date is in a UTECH year, allowing us to celebrate the occasion at the UTECH Europe 2012 conference. As this major event for the industry draws near, I thought it would be good to imagine - somewhat tongue-in-cheek - what the world might look like if, in one fell swoop, we removed all the polyurethane products.
