On the occasion of the V Congress of the Polish Foundry Engineering and 150th anniversary of the Iron Foundry DRAWSKI SA the Author refers to the history, the actual state and the possible directions of the development of the foundry engineering as one of the important production technologies. There are discussed the factors determinig the farther development of the foundry technology in the global scale as well as in Poland. The needs of the development and modernisation of the polish foundry practice when accepting the challenge from the side of the EU structures are discussed. The author tries to answer the question in what a direction the polish foundry technology should develop to become able to cope with future challenges; at the same time he proposes to spend some time of the Congress' debate on these problems.
