Balancing Mechanism volatility increased over May (following a decline last month as the market adjusted to the lower pricing levels), with the average System Buy Price (SBP) up at E48.62/MWh, compared to 43.62 pounds/MWh last month. This is lower than the level it was during May 08, when the SBP averaged 82.62 pounds/MWh. This reduction in volatility can, in part, be attributed to the general weakness in generating fuel markets and the healthy level of capacity on the system following the return of a couple of British Energy's nuclear reactors .
