Introduction

This special section of Psychology and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice is, in part, a record of a live event at the University of Leicester, at which novelists and psychologists conversed in front of an audience made up of trainees and supervisors from the Leicester training course in clinical psychology I would like to say something in this introduction about my aims in organizing such an event, and to turn briefly to consider the process of shaping the transcripts of conversations into a journal in an attempt to bring the material to a reading-rather than a listening-audience.
