1. Introduction. We are concerned with the Riemann problem for System (1;1) has the two eigenvalues Ai = u and A 2 = 2u with corresponding right eigenvectors ri = (0,1), ra = (l,v/u)r, and VAi n = 0, VA2 r2 = 2. Thus (1.1) is nonstrictly hyperbolic and Aj is linearly degenerate; A2 is genuinely nonlinear.
