摘要

The design, synthesis and characterization of a new class of biocatalytic nanomaterials are described here. In a unique approach, enzymes complexed with deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) are embedded in layered inorganic nanomaterials and the resulting biocatalysts indicated enhanced enzymatic activities when compared to samples without DNA. These biocatalysts are characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM as well as by biochemical, calorimetric and spectroscopic methods. DNA served as an excellent biological solvent to retain bound enzyme structure and activity to a significant extent. These novel materials provide new vehicles for DNA delivery and aid in engineering more effective synthetic materials for gene/RNA-aelivery, drug delivery and biocatafysis.
