Negotiations among the United Mine Workers of America and the variety of producers whose labor contracts are set to expire at the end of the year have been conducted in amazing silence. Little or no information has come to light. Significantly, we've entered November without as much as a saber rattle, and the early labor unrest one might expect if the negotiations were perceived to be going badly certainly hasn't developed. That would seem to suggest that the union expects to be able to make deals.
