Though their problems don't appear to be as severe as those experienced by major Eastern railroad companies, shipping shortcomings by Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific in recent weeks have become noticeable among some in the industry. The good news, at least in the view of one Western source: performance by the two major railroads moving Powder River Basin coal has improved of late, and stockpiles at utilities burning PRB products are plentiful enough to prevent any real inventory issues.
