Brazilians start to make their move on U.S. coking coal, and price reflects strength of met market

A U.S. coking coal supplier has completed a deal with a Brazilian steelmaker for mid-vol coking coal at a price around 155 dollars/metric tonne. The coal is scheduled to be delivered in March from Norfolk. The coal is around 22.3% vol, 8% ash and 1% sulfur, according to sources, one of whom said high-quality low-vols now are selling at a 5-10 dollars/tonne premium above mid-vol coals. He added that the best low-vols can now command 160-165 dollars/tonne FOB port.
