Graphic Packaging set to increase unbleached kraft board capacity at West Monroe with headbox project

Graphic Packaging plans a $35-40 million investment in a new headbox and press equipment on a machine at its West Monroe, LA, coated unbleached kraft (CUK) paperboard mill in second quarter 2016 that will add 30,000 tons/yr of capacity to supply several new carton plant acquisitions across North America and existing operations in Europe. Speaking to analysts after its third quarter 2015 conference call, company leaders said plans call for 25 days of downtime in April 2016 and a build-up of 20,000 tons of CUK (also called solid unbleached sulfate, SUS) inventories in fourth quarter 2015 to meet customer carton demand.
