Segregation in the surface layers of a powder of aluminum alloy containing 0.26 at % barium is studied. XPS data revealed an increase in the surface barium content to 13 at % compared lo the bulk concentration. Investigations of the oxidation of the powder in air with the use of thermogravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry showed that the high surface and chemical activity of barium results in an increase in the thermal kinetic and energetic characteristics of the interaction.
