Successful raising of mango nursery

The sub-montaneous districts comprising of Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Ropar of Punjab are suitable for the cultivation of mango. The quality and source of plants have a great role in the successful growing of mango orchards. At present a number of government nurseries including those of Punjab Agricultural University and government approved private nurseries are engaged in raising mango plants. The following points may be kept in mind while raising mango plants in the nursery. Preparation of beds andsowing of mango stones: The seed stones of mango are sown in July. The seed beds should be free from weeds and well rotten FYM is mixed properly in these beds. The mango stones are spread closely on the seed beds and they are covered with rotten FYM. After sowing, the stones start germinating after about two weeks and their germination is completed within 4-5 weeks.
